We have another Betsy Johnson Alley Cat label maxi Dress! Inspired by and for the “youthquake” movement of the 1970s, these dresses were designed for women ready to party. They are often equal parts hippie and punk with bohemian flares and sexy silhouettes, and you often find them altered with abandon by their original owners with custom additions and cuts, all of which is true about our dress here. This dress was purchased in NYC in the 1970s by a women who was modeling for Maytag while studying cosmetology (and partying with a bunch of musicians as I was told!). Made from a soft, black knit nylon, its slinky, body-skimming design is extremely sexy and flattering. It follows the body from shoulder to hem with a subtly flared skirt. The neckline features a deep scoop neck cut by the original owner, very much a product of the DIY culture of the punk scene that defined the era. The fabric has the signature stretch and sheen you often see in early Alley Cat pieces. With age and wear, the dress does show pilling and small imperfections throughout, including minor snags and mended spots, all consistent with a loved vintage piece!
Measurements: Bust 34”, Waist 26”-28”, Hips 40”, Shoulder 15”, Sleeve 23”, Shoulder to Hem 51”
It is our mission to be 100% transparent and honest about any and all issues found, but all of our items are vintage - which means most of them have been worn, used and may have minor issues. In the event that we have overlooked an issue, it was not because we misrepresented the item, it is because the issue was not apparent enough to demand our attention. We can only apologize for our oversight and hope you can either repair the issue or resell the item but we do not accept returns for items we have photographed and listed online.
