Mid Century Teak Extending Dining Table

This mid century teak fining table is as practical ad it is pretty when you discover its hidden leaf mechanism! Just pull both sections of the top apart to reveal its cleverly and conveniently built-in extension system - it simply folds in and out as needed - and then lives stowed away underneath the top, eliminating the need to make space for the leaves elsewhere when not in use. This is why we continue to say “They don’t make ‘em like they used to” - so tried but so true!

The table top is teak veneer, and I refinished both sections. The legs are solid wood, likely walnut, and I refinished these as well. I also gave all four joints, where the legs meet the skirt, new glue. Decades of pulling the table apart to extend the leaf had caused all of them to loosen and separate.

I not refinish the hidden extension and given its place away sun and use, it naturally has less patina than the rest of the table. Less patina means it is lighter in color than the other two parts of the table top.
