This stunning Heywood Wakefield vanity is a true mid-century masterpiece, showcasing the brand’s iconic “platinum” finish! The curved drawer fronts, sculptural lines, and softly rounded edges bring a sense of flow and elegance to the piece. It features its original oversized mirror with rounded edges that extends below the glass shelf. The glass shelf has a distinct geometric shape, and it’s a miracle all of the original glass here is still present and in one piece. The matching stool is a standout accessory on its own. The rich, mocha-brown, tufted upholstery is reminiscent of a flower in design with plush “petal” cushions surrounding the seat’s circular center. The stool base echoes the vanity’s angular design with its “wishbone” legs and the seat fully, and smoothly, swivels on this base. This is perfect for use as a seated makeup station, a statement hallway console, or even a reimagined desk. Heywood Wakefield is known for its superior craftsmanship and eye for detail. This was designed & manufactured in the late ‘40s~early 50s, and it’s easy to see how seamlessly these periods coincide as the art deco era moves toward the minimalism of mid century modern design. This piece beautifully blends the best of both worlds. It was crafted out of solid maple and features its original “platinum” finish. Maker’s marks may be found under the seat, inside the top drawer and on the backs of the vanity and mirror. Great condition, with minimal-to-normal surface wear on the vanity’s top and inside the drawers.
This vanity is perfect for anyone looking to complete their Heywood-Wakefield collection, or the perfect place to start a collection beginning with two of the most sought after pieces in the line. Finally, it’s worth noting here how rare it is to find the vanity with the stool, and in such great condition, with the original upholstery.

“It appears to have have been built in 1945 the year WWII ended, but marketing didn’t begin with supply chains for a few years after that.
Dad was at the Pentagon in DC when mom bought the furniture around 1955 when I was born at Fort Belvoir, Virginia it was put in storage in the late 50s early 60s while we were in South Korea and then it went to Belleville Illinois, then to Dover, Delaware while dad was flying to Vietnam and then back to Oxford, Ohio his last year in ROTC at Miami University and then to Fayetteville, North Carolina and then Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and then Croasdaile Village for the last 20 years.
The furniture just had a good life, hope it still has more years.”
