The yoke is a heavily ruched panel above a loosely ruched bust, gathered to create blousy horizontal folds above a high, empire waist. The short, full sleeves culminate to small, fitted cuffs, creating a balloon effect, and both sleeves have a very cool cutouts near the hems. The waist has two belts attached at each side for cinching in back. The back has the same ruching as the yoke with fabric buttons above another cutout, or slit, for easy entry over head. Below the ruching in back is more loosely gathered material that gracefully drapes across the blousy back like a curtain. The rest of the dress is cut on the bias to create that signature silhouette of this most elegant era.
