Authentic 1920s ivory drop-waist gown made entirely of the finest silk chiffon with incredible hand-done embellishments and beading. The dress features accordion pleating cascading down both the front and back of the dress, accentuating its elongated silhouette. The dropped waist has a matching silk chiffon sash meant to be draped along the hips and tied in a bow on one side, giving prominence to the dress’ loose-fitting, flowing design. Along the neckline, shoulders, and down both sides, framing the dress’ pleated paneling, you’ll find exquisite embroidery in warm ivory and black, outlined and accented with delicate beadwork that continues onto the hem in an ornate floral motif. The sleeves fall into an ethereal drape with elegant, fluttering handkerchief hems. It closes with original 1920’s snaps along the upper right shoulder and down the front along a built-in slip, or under layer of more silk chiffon. Its accordion pleating and dramatic drape are reminiscent of greco-roman dress, with its deep, gathered folds - often loosely belted & clasped on one shoulder - and elaborately decorated borders, all of which are demonstrated with our dress here.
Condition: There is some wear at the shoulder where the snaps offer closure. It will need a professional repair, but all of the original hardware is still there. It will arrive with one snap in a plastic bag for safe-keeping. The fabric at the right underarm is ripped and will need a professional repair. A few small stains and tiny holes throughout. I have not worked on the stains. The holes could be professionally repaired. Apart from the shoulder & underarm, none of these issues are very visible or noticeable, and none detract from the dress’ beauty. A true rarity, sought after by collectors for its age and beauty but equally desirable to all for its beauty alone!
