Some dresses happen once in a lifetime and this beautiful ballgown has got to be one of the best we’ve ever had.
This is a true vintage formal from the 1950s, extremely well-made, with utmost care and attention given to its construction, and an equally enchanting, likely bespoke, design. While not uncommon for this era, this dress’ dramatic shape is a stunning and sensational display of a classic silhouette, but in addition to its fantastic form, the finer attributes are all in the details. The garnet velvet bodice is boned with what feels like spiral (flexible) steel, which was commonly used for boning at that time. The strapless, sweetheart neckline features an elegant collar all the way around - such a subtle but sophisticated sartorial touch that makes this gown feel polished & refined. Another fantastic feature here is the deep-V Basque waist, which is so flattering, and, here, occurs at both the front and back of the waist. There is a metal Talon zipper on the left side of the bodice for closure, culminating to a hook and clasp for added security. The skirt is composed of several layers of tulle, creating that dreamy, dramatic, floor-sweeping flare, all of which is beautifully accentuated by the gown’s whittled, form-fitted waist. The velvet extends down over the top of the skirt, gathered along the Basque waist to build even more fullness before giving way to the top layer of ruched tulle. This transition undulates in length as it moves around the gown, adding elegant movement and visual rhythm to every step.
Measurements: Bust 34”, Waist 26”, Hips 46”, Bodice 9.5”, Waist to Hem 41”, Shoulder to Hem 48.5”
