This stunning piece of fashion history is an extraordinary example of turn of the century women’s wear. An elevated version of the everyday cotton shirtwaist women would work, cook and go about their daily business in, this piece is set apart by its incredible embroidery. Featuring cutwork, needle lace, and 3D figural plants and birds, the embroidery work on this piece is in a league of its own. Beautifully tailored to fit the silhouette of the time, with an exaggerated bustle back and straight bust line, it was made to wear over a corset but is gorgeous on bare skin. The sleeves are voluminous bishop sleeves, not as exaggerated as the leg of mutton trending in the previous century, but still featuring a nipped in cuff to create drama. This blouse buttons up the front with stunning iridescent mother of pearl buttons, and ties around the waist internally via a piece of cotton tape. This piece is over 100 years old, and as such has small mends throughout (pictured). In excellent condition for its age, but should still be worn with caution, and hand washed only.

Measurements:

38” bust, 38” waist, 16” bicep, 14” shoulder, 7” wrist (buttoned)
