1940s WWII U.S. Women’s Army Corps (WAC) M-1943 wool field jacket liner. Developed as a cold-weather insulating layer to be worn beneath the women’s M-1943 field jacket, the wool liner was introduced in 1944 and could also be worn on its own. Constructed in an olive drab/brown wool with a beautifully tailored, form-fitting silhouette. Features a high rib-knit crossover collar, six-button front closure, buttoned shoulder epaulettes, long sleeves with extended rib-knit cuffs, and two angled front slit pockets. Princess-style seaming through the front and back creates a distinctly shaped waist before gently flaring over the hips. The interior is fully lined in coordinating green fabric for easy layering.Original sewn-in size label reads “Size 12R” for 12 Regular. The simple military construction, tonal brown buttons and matching knit trim give this utilitarian WWII piece an unexpectedly sophisticated silhouette. A wonderful original piece of WWII women’s military history and a particularly wearable example of WAC cold-weather clothing. The jacket presents beautifully with age-appropriate wear; note the small hole visible on the knit collar.
