1950s Silk Rose Off-Shoulder Peplum Dress • XS
1950s 100% raw silk cocktail dress with the most beautiful red and green rose print all over a brushed gold background. The roses are abstract but almost realistic in their delivery, and their vibrant colors truly pop off an otherwise muted colorway. The dress is almost sculptural in design with its carefully arranged off-shoulder neckline and its long peplum skirt overlaying a knee-length pencil skirt below. There is crinoline under the shorter, top skirt to pouf it up. The waist is fitted with a matching belt with a fabric-wrapped buckle. The upper back is open, with a zipper up the lower back for closure. The dress is fully lined.
Condition: great! the former owner was experimenting with the dress’ off-shoulder top and added a few snap buttons. I removed the two that were visible but there are a few more on the inside that aren’t visible - just confusing when you’re putting this on for the first time. These can be easily removed. There is one tear in the ultra-fine silk fabric where the shoulders close across the upper back, right at the edge. There is a tiny opening in the seam at the right underarm; easily repairable. There are three tiny holes in the fabric in the skirt’s central front, hardly visible and only under close scrutiny. There are extremely faint stains along the right aide of the dress, all barely visible and only upon close inspection. The string loop for the hook above the zipper at. The back’s closure needs mending, but zipper seems to be in excellent shape. Freshly dry cleaned!
Measurements taken flat, with the bust, waist and hips doubled. Bust 32” Waist 23” Hips (of bottom skirt later) 38” Skirt length 25”. This dress would best fit as a size XS (0/2).
