Extremely rare pair of men’s boots from Topper, a famous & wildly popular shoe store in London’s world-renowned district W1. This is where you go for that quintessential London experience in the heart of London’s West End. This district is also home to the vibrant and bustling Carnaby Street, where the “Swinging Sixties” soared, revolutionizing and redefining pop culture and fashion. All of the mods, dandies & hippies alike would have frequented this street, and given its position at the epicenter of this movement, it’s no wonder it also attracted some of the most famous musicians of that time, including The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan (see photos)…. and the list goes on. All that’s to say, these boots were purchased on this very street, in that exact era from Topper Shoes.
Topper shoes were designed by Stephen Topper and manufactured in either France, Italy or Spain, with quality and craftsmanship held at a high caliber. This is so apparent in-person and upon close inspection. The boots we have here are impeccably crafted and handmade, or as they are marked “hand-lasted”. Lasting shoes involves the meticulous and time-intensive process of manually stretching leather over a mold by a skilled artisan to produce a durable, higher-quality construction and a sculpted, superior fit. This may be why these boots remain in such great condition today despite their wear and age. Round toed and knee high, they are made entirely of black, genuine leather. They have leather soles and stacked heels, and are lined in buttery soft, tan leather.
These boots have some patina and visible wear, but no damage or flaws. Marked “hand-lasted” on the bottom & stamped a size 8 ½ inside.
